Mr 47 believes, strongly, that the exporters, not the importers, pay the tariffs. He believes that China is handing over BILLIONS to the U.S. to accept their goods, LOL. His devoted followers never question even his most obvious BS.
He refuses to understand the truth that the importing entities, ya know, like WalMart, Amazon, Lowes, Dole, Target, Home Depot, Samsung America etc pay the tariffs and must decide how much to dun customers vs profits/investors. In fact, the importer pays the tariff to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, part of the DHS. Kristi Noem should know this and report it to Mr 47. To recap, if XXX corporation imports a $1000 widget from North Abrogasia with a 40% tariff, XXX pays $1000 to N Abrogasia and $400 to U.S. Customs and Border Protection! XXX’s total outlay is $1400 and they have to decide how much to raise the price to the ultimate consumer.
Is Mr 47 really that ignorant or is he just comfortable lying to his followers? No doubt, part of both. He likes to keep everyone off balance by changing his story on a daily basis, 145%, no 40%, 90 day delay, no 30 day delay, or ON tomorrow!
